Excerpt:
I had always been in love with science but my hazy hopes of a research career were stymied by a degree of experimental ineptitude that is still spoken of in hushed whispers and/or raucous laughter. Two events helped me changed tack towards a more suited and less radioactive path. One: a friend of mine told me in a pub that I was good at explaining complicated things to him. Two: I did a two-day science communication course for graduate students, which told me the same thing. These were lightbulb moments.
